One cannot begin to fully understand the story that is America without first understanding its relationship to God. America, even before its founding as a nation has been shaped by man's connection to God. This connection has brought with it inspiration, moral code, and direction that has played a significant role in the most important and pivotal moments of our history. From the times of Puritans and Ann Hutchinson, to the founding of a proclaimed separation of church and state by Thomas Jefferson, to the emancipation of thousands of slaves in the Civil War, to the inspiration of many to use God as a triumph over communism, to modern day politics, Americans have consistently been in some form connected to God. In the most religiously diverse nation on the planet, where Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, or any region, even those who do not have a religion call home, it is important to understand our history and how religion has played a crucial role.
In the American Experience / Frontline documentary, "God In America", this story is told unlike that of any other television program. I encourage you to watch this six part series on religion in America. It will answer questions you may have about our current political and religious climate, and it will give you a better understanding for what is to come in our future.
