What do Raindrops in Rocks Tell Us?

What can we learn from fossilized rocks with rain drops on them? It could really lead to more answers to Carl Sagan's paradox that the Earth was warm, even when the sun was dimmer (does this suggest green house gases were high due to the compensation of the sun's relative dimming?) and further, does this suggest that when higher levels of GHG's are present and a relatively brighter Sun, will there be different outcomes?
